“Thus fortified I might take my rest in peace. But dreams come through stone walls, light up dark rooms, or darken light ones, and their persons make their exits and entrances as they please, and laugh at locksmiths.”
-Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu, Carmilla
“REM” is an ongoing multimedia project based on my visual and sensory interpretation of dreams of other people that I interviewed in detail, as well as of some my own nocturnal experiences. Its first phase is a presentation of staged, still photographs. I’ve challenged myself to create this photographic series without digitally manipulating the scenes, i.e. neither software nor filters were used to create the effects or colors in these images.
Selections from REM were shown in April/May 2013 at the Schauplatz group exhibition in Studio 1 at Kunstquartier Bethanien, Berlin-Kreuzberg. An accompanying catalogue with foreword by Dr. Enno Kaufhold was published and can be ordered through zimmerverlagberlin.
